Unless you've been living in a cave somewhere you know that smoking is unhealthy for you. Second hand smoke is just as unhealthy. There are 2 kinds of second hand smoke; it's also called passive smoke. One is mainstream smoke which is exhaled by a smoker, the other is sidestream smoke. This is the smoke from the lit part of the cigarette that is floating in the air.

Involuntary smoking or passive smoking is when non smokers are exposed to a smokers smoking. Studies have shown that non smokers take in nicotine and the other toxins found in cigarettes just as if they were sucking on the cigarettes themselves. That is not a comforting thought. So even if you are not a smoker but you are around smokers and breath in mainstream or sidestream smoke you are putting yourself at risk for smoking related diseases such as lung cancer.

If you hang around smokers you will smell like you smoked too. Smoke stays in your clothes and on your hair and you start to smell pretty gross. And now believe it or not, there is talk about how maybe third-hand smoke might be harmful too. What in the world is third-hand smoke? It is the lingering aroma that is left in the air after a smoker is done smoking.

It seems every time you turn around smokers get a real bashing. You should be able to smoke if you want to without feeling like a criminal. It should be your own choice whether to smoke or not but with the issues of second hand smoke and possibly third-hand smoke it's not fair to the non smoker either. The non smoker made the choice not to smoke.
